Pat’s Goals

Okay, it’s New Year’s Eve, 7:30 p.m. in San Jose, and I am working on my resolutions. They mostly revolve around writing, which I have not done much in December. I hereby resolve to write at least one new novel in 2013 and at least five short stories, which I will enter in contests. I will write at least two or three articles for Janie’s newsletter, and for the Roundup, the magazine of the Western Writers of America, of which I am a member. Of course there are the usual resolutions: walk more, lose weight, stop spending so much money, and don’t waste food. I hope that, since I have now put it in writing, I will do at least most of these in the coming months. Anybody else want to commit to something for the new year?

  1. Thanks, Janie. Did you dad play a Cavalry man, or an Indian? 🙂 Guess if he wanted to be one of the survivors, he had to play an Indian. (Or native American, if that’s more politically correct.)

    • No, he was Calvary – and got ‘killed’ several times. I think they did the reenactment 5 or 6 times over a couple week period. 🙂

  2. Good for you, Janie, for checking up on me. I do have a habit of letting things slide. But… I have written one new short story (haven’t entered it in any contest yet) and have started a historical novel titled “General Custer’s Cook.” Also, I have a publisher interested in a book I wrote for kids last year, “The Girl with the Dragonfly Eyes.” I have even written an article for you, on “show don’t tell,” but I still need to polish it. Stay tuned. 🙂

    • sounds good. I grew up in Montana and my dad played in a reenactment of Custer’s Last Stand during the Montana Centennial many years ago. Your book on Custer sounds interesting. Let me know about the kid’s book, too. When it is published I will promote it on the Friends of C4WE Book page. 🙂

  3. I don’t yet know what I’ll write about in a novel. But I have *started* 3 new short stories. So my resolution is somewhat on track. 🙂 I’d love to see what others have resolved, re: their writing goals.
